APR 2008 POSTPONED

Dear APR Member,
Further to our communication on the postponement of the 2nd ABUJA PETROLEUM ROUNDTABLE – APR II, we wish to state the following:
1. APR II has now been tentatively fixed to hold 23-24 February 2009. The themes, topics and venue remain the same. However, there may be minor modifications to some of the topics and presentations. The dates will be confirmed from on-going consultations in the next one month.

2. We were constrained to postpone for two main reasons:

a. We were yet to confirm any sponsorships, five weeks to the event and we were not willing to lower the standards we have already set due to no sponsorship; and

b. The political temperature in the Niger Delta opened the APR to the prospect of being taken over by political controversies, especially with the planned participation of Niger Delta Governors in the GOVERNORS FORUM. We would like APR to remain an advocacy think-tank -addressing linkages of oil to development, rather than getting involved in the “Oil War”.

3. We regret the inconveniences the postponement may have caused many of you, and hope that you will be available to play a part in the February event.

4. We are developing and launching an APR on-line Forum and a monthly newsletter which may be downloaded from www.eisnigeria.com/apr as from November 2008. We hope that this will increase members interactions and debate on issues of petroleum economics and management of oil revenues for development in Nigeria and the Gulf of Guinea. We also hope that the electronic forum will help us distill new ideas on how best to sustain APR as an independent NGO with a clear focus and not a platform for narrow interests or opportunity for socialising as it has become for some participants.

Another cause of action we will pursue vigorously in the coming months is to expand the alliances already established between Nigerian Energy Chronicles and some universities, to build strong institutional partnerships for APR.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the undersigned on 08039575062 or by e-mail. You may also visit our website from time to time to know what is new.
Yours sincerely,

IKECHI IBEJI

Presented by:

Abuja Petroleum Roundtable - An annual forum focused on creating linkages between petroleum exploitation and economic development in the Gulf of Guinea.

Abuja Petroleum Roundtable was originally conceived as a quarterly closed forum on petroleum policy issues intended for only invited experts on the relevant subject for each event. However, the expansion of the mandate occasioned by the involvement of world renowned petroleum engineering teacher and policy analysis guru - Dr Emmanuel Egbogah now makes an annual event more realistic.
Dr. Egbogah, since being named the Chairman of the Abuja Petroleum Roundtable Advisory Board, has given time and other resources to campaign for the project, thereby raising the profile of APR. He has also taken time off his very busy schedule to address the media and other stakeholders, visit important players in the Nigerian economy and given television talk shows, all in support of the awareness creation drive.
The APR Advisory Board is a body of Nigerian and international eminent personalities and very successful persons who have impeccable pedigree in the Oil & Gas business.
